Montrail is proud to sponsor the world’s toughest (that’s an understatement!) 100 mile run. In fact, our best selling shoe (Hardrock) is named after this premiere endurance race.
What: 16th Annual Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run Where: Silverton, Colorado When: Friday, July 9th, 2010 Sponsors: Montrail, Succeed, Running Delights
About the Event Hardrock is not meant for everyone as stated on event website: “You are responsible for being trained well enough to endure these mountains safely. That is why we impose entry qualifications on runners. This is definitely a "post graduate" run, and not just a harder or higher version of some other hundred miler. It is up to you to devise a training program that will get you to Silverton in condition to participate in what can be a very enjoyable experience….we would suggest you pre-run one of the sections with more "exposure" (sharp drop-offs or snow). This will allow you to calibrate your ability to handle heights against actual conditions.”
Synopsis of 2009 Run: Karl Meltzer won in 24:38, a new record in the CCW direction and the second fastest time ever. Diana Finkel was the first woman in a course record 27:18, finishing 3rd overall behind Troy Howard in second place (in 26:01 - the third fastest time ever). There were 105 finishers out of 140 starters - the most ever. The oldest finisher was the amazing John DeWalt, 73, who finished his 14th Hardrock in 47:47.
